The idea of an elite invitational camp where top talent is invited along to compete and perform has been long at work in sports-focused countries like the USA and Australia. Some of the clear benefits from an Elite Exposure Camp structure are:
- Honour of being selected as an elite player
- High level competition
- Opportunity to showcase skills in front of experienced and connected coaches
- Elite-level coaching and experience that can drastically increase your sport-specific skills, sport IQ, physical edge and mental ability
As many wise coaches often say, the only way to really improve is simple; you have to ‘play’ . . . and ‘play’ often. In order for top athletes to improve, they must be challenged, not only by expert coaches, but by playing against the highest standard possible.
SDA creates the opportunity for top players to compete against each other on an annual basis. SDA Elite Invitational Camps are run to provide an elite environment for the nation’s top youth athletes to come and match their skills against other top athletes. SDA Elite Invitational Camps identify top talent, and then provide expert coaching (International & National Coaches), development programmes (Skills, S&C, Mental) and other bespoke services to ensure athletes leave the camp as better players than when they arrived.
Getting noticed is not an easy task, and in the current high volume sporting environment, the chances of getting seen and landing on a coach’s radar has become even less likely. However SDA knows what coaches look for when it comes to identifying top talent. The SDA Invitational Camps are also geared towards providing athletes with a vehicle to showcase their abilities and place their game in the shop window. Every invited athlete gets their video highlights from camp and a profile posted on the SDA website for coaches to see. “The biggest advantage the SDA Invitational Camp has over other camps is the insight it provides such as the informational sessions with American coaches, the workshops on the challenges of becoming a college basketball player, and how to get in contact with coaches in the U.S.” – John Carroll – The Hill School (PA, USA)
The Sport Dream Academy experience is something I would love to do all over again. The opportunity to get up every morning and go and compete with the best players in the country and be coached by the top coaches is one that doesn’t come around to often – Conor Quinn – Belfast Star, St. Malachys, Ireland U18
